Online Survey: Katrina Kaif Voted as the Best Indian Celebrity Match for Prince Williams

ndian matrimonial website ‘shadi.com’ arranged an online survey in which participants have to choose the best Indian celebrity match for Prince Williams from the available options of Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Sonaksi Sinha.

In this online survey 75.3 percent participants voted for British born Katrina Kaif as the best Indian celebrity match for Prince Williams. Total of 8,000 visitors participated in the online poll and voted for their respective choice. 

Katrina Kaif was voted by more than 6,000 online voters as the best Indian Celebrity match for Prince Williams; while the other two, Priyanka Chopra and Soakshi Sinha, collectively got only 24.7 percent of total votes. "Desi girl" Priyanka Chopra got 16.7 percent votes, while ‘Dabangg’ fame Sonakshi Sinha got only eight percent of the total people participated in the survey.

Bollywood Updates: King Khan and Leonardo Di Caprio to Appear in 'Xtrme City'

MUMBAI - According to sources, King of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan and Hollywood handsome star Leonardo Di Caprio are set to appear in movie, titled 'Xtrme City', which is reportedly a crime thriller based on Mumbai’s underworld.

 The movie is to be directed by Paul Schrader and will be co-produced by Sikelia Productions and SRK’s Red Chillies. Robert De Niro’s 1976 hit movie “Taxi Driver” was also written by Paul Schrader. 

The script of 'Xtrme City' has been co-written by Paul Schrader along with Mushtaq Shiekh, the screenwriter who has on his credit ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Ra.One’. He is also a good friend of Shahrukh Khan. The movie is planned to be shot mostly in Mumbai. According to sources the original idea came into existence when Shahrukh Khan went to Berlin for the promotion of his movie “My Name Is Khan” and Leonardo and Martin Scorsese came for their film ‘Shutter Island’. Mushtaq and Paul have been working on the script for a year now.

Priyanka Chopra's Hidden Real Estate Investment Revealed by Income Tax Department

Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra has her own home in Mumbai; everybody knows but many will not know that she has invested in real estate. The revelation came after Income Tax officials raids at her residence and office to get documents and eveidence that she owns nine flats in Mumbai.

According to the documents found by Income Tax officials; Priyanka Chopra owns five flats at Raj Classic in Versova but the actress has cleverly converted them into two - one comprising of three flats and the other two. She also owns a penthouse and three flats, which she gives out for rent.

The Income Tax officials raided the houses of Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra on January 24 on suspicion of tax evasion. They raided about 12 premises belonging to the actresses and sealed their lockers and seized their documents. The raids had earlier exposed that Katrina has an unaccounted wealth of around Rs. 6 crore in the form of jewellery, property and business ventures.

 The early morning raids on Monday were headed by the wing of Income Tax department and 12 locations were searched out for the evidence of the possible tax evasion.  

 The department began the searches after information that the two actors had not paid tax in proportionate to their actual income. "The exact amount of tax evasion would be known in the evening after we scrutinise the documents and bank records," a senior I-T officer said, requesting anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Bigg Boss Season 4 - - Shweta Tiwari Emerges Out as First Female Winner to Claim Rs. 10 Million

TV actress Shweta Tiwari has become the first female contestant to win the fourth season of the reality show Bigg Boss.  It's the news that all have been waiting for. After fights and quarrels, and some good and bad moments, controversies and melodrama, Bigg Boss Season 4 comes to a grand end. Shweta Tiwari has won the 4th season of  Bigg Boss – the Indian version of the  reality show Big Brother that originated in in 1999. Bigg Boss 4 started in the first week of October on ’s Colors TV channel and was hosted by Bollywood’s superstar Salman Khan. Each week, one contestant was eliminated till only four were left in the house till the grand finale. She got divorce from Raja over a year ago and participated in the reality show Is Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao (2009), the Indian version of the British reality show I'm a Celebrity Get Me out of Here!. In Bigg Boss 4, she was a hot favorite and one of the top two paid participants in the show. She was shown the target of Dolly Bindra’s abuse a number of times until Dolly’s eviction and subsequent reentry after which the two had a more tolerant and friendly interaction.

 Bigg Boss season 4 remained controversial for a number of reasons. Jaya Bachan's Special Arrangements for Amitabh Bachan on This Christmas

This Christmas was made special for Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan as his wife Jaya decorated a Christmas tree with gifts for the family and their friends.

"For the first time ever in my remembrance, Jaya brought in a Christmas tree in the house and decorated it with the finest trappings of all that goes to make it look inviting and attractive," Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

The Bachchan household was full of guests when the clock struck midnight, and Jaya not just arranged for gifts for the family but also for the guests.

The 68-year-old actor said his wife's gesture left him overwhelmed.

"She hung little gifts for us all and as the midnight hour struck, asked us over to look for our goodies. It was so sweet and generous and considerate to have done all that - and all done quietly, all by herself! Oh ! Such a wonderful moment," he wrote.

Jaya, a perfect homemaker, also treated everyone with some "special cooking".

Amitabh went down the memory lane and recollected how he used to celebrate Christmas in his earlier days.

"I am so nostalgic of the many Christmas eves celebrated throughout these 68 years! The midnight carol singing in the cold of northern India, the coffee breaks to keep us warm and awake, those visits to the neighbours and then the little gifts that we received when we went across," the actor wrote.

"The special cake and pastry for the occasion. The mid-night mass that we attended with all our friends in the nearby church and just such a feeling of warmth and happiness throughout," he said.

'Sheila Ki Jawani' by Katrina Kaif Pulled The Audience to Watch Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan

Katrina Kaif's opulent Sheila Ki Jawani number brought in the audiences in droves to watch Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan, with the movie gathering 90-95 percent occupancy on the day of its release Friday.

 

With their interest arouse by Katrina's slithery moves in television promos of the film, the Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer was a hit on its first day.

However, industry insiders predict the huge turnout is mostly due to Katrina's dance number.

"We are having good advance bookings for Tees Maar Khan and the initial response is good, with almost 90 percent occupancy, but the content is not at all as per expectations," Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, told media.

"Audiences are mostly queuing up to watch Katrina Kaif in Sheila Ki Jawani, and that's about it," he added.

Amit Awasthi, senior manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, said: "The movie has opened to a fantastic initial with over 95 percent occupancy and the audiences are coming in mostly due to the hot item number," said Awasthi.

A source from PVR cinemas also said: "The initial for the movie is good at about 80-90 percent but the content is not getting appreciation. The audiences are only here for the item song and not for the movie per se."

Co-produced by Three's Company, Hari Om Entertainment and UTV Motion Pictures, the previews for the movie held on Dec 21, Dec 22 and Dec 23 in select cities in Britain have, however, grossed over Rs.7.5 million.

In the US, the previews grossed Rs.4 million on Wednesday alone, according to a statement by UTV. While in the Middle East, it has made around Rs.9.5 million on its opening day.

Another movie that was released is Ajay Devgn-Kajol starrer live action animation Toonpur Ka Superhero that is still waiting to pick up with only 20-30 percent occupancy on an average.

Indians speak over 400 different dialects and devote themselves to as many different religions and spiritual followings. The country finds common ground in its worship of cricket players and movie stars who are demigods among the population of more than 1 billion. Among even these select few, some, like Shahrukh Khan, stand out as Herculean when compared to the rest.

Khan is an actor (he has been in more than 70 films), film producer, television host, and a Bollywood king; which is really film star royalty since Bollywood is the largest film industry in the world. Bollywood produces 850 films annually (about 2 films a day), while Hollywood churns out about 450 films annually. Khan is slowly gaining prominence among Western audience who were hitherto still clueless about Bollywood. In 2008 Newsweek named Khan one of the 50 most powerful people in the world.

So, Khan is an internationally recognized name: but, as the megastar realized, not always for the right reasons.

On Friday, at Newark Liberty International airport, Khan was detained for inspections. Immediately, tales of racial profiling hit Indian newsstands, enraging Khan’s extensive fan base. Apparently inspired by the incident, 'The Times of India’ published this affronted, defensive, (and oddly patriotic) segment:

WASHINGTON/MUMBAI: “My name is Khan.” “Oh it is, is it? Step aside, please.”

The way it was related, that might well have been the opening exchange between Shahrukh Khan and an unnamed, uninformed, super-empowered US immigration official who had no idea (and didn’t care) that the man in front of him is the star of a film by the same name (My name is Khan), much less that he is a universal Bollywood icon.

SRK, as the actor star is known by his popular acronym, was asked to indeed step aside for a “secondary inspections” at Newark’s ironically named (in this context) Liberty International airport on Friday en route to an event to celebrate India’s Independence Day in Chicago, President Barack Obama’s hometown. But that was only after a “primary inspection.”

Apparently, Khan, who has travelled to the US before and was never singled out then, believes that he was questioned because of his Muslim name and heritage. “I told them I was a movie star,” he was quoted as saying. But Khan’s stardom did not shield him from detention and a barrage of irrelevant questions, excused away by security reasons.

It has become disturbingly easy to generalize notions of human rights, simplifying the particular down to vague umbrella terms like “security,” “peace,” and “freedom.” In doing so, specific human rights law has been forgotten as governments tries to forward greater, unspecific, ‘humanitarian’ missions. The means justifies the ends. America tortures for security, bombs for peace, and detains for freedom. Paraphrasing Harold Koh, Dean of Yale Law School, in recent times America, instead of being a country of “zero tolerance” has become a country of “zero accountability.”

According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the US bureau of Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) “suspicionless search policy” violates the constitutional rights and privacy rights, as well as the right to freedom of speech, inquiry, and association, of international travellers. CBP is even permitted to search laptops and other electronic devices of passengers, retaining their personal information indefinitely, regardless of whether they are suspected of wrongdoing in the first place. Human rights groups claim that CBP’s policies allow them to severely discriminate against travelers who are, or even appear to be, Muslim, Arab, or South Asian – those most associated with extremism and terrorism in light of the 9/11 attacks. Towards it end, the Bush administration issued a report to the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination stating it was making efforts to end racial profiling, but included an absolute reservation against previous U.N. recommendations concerning “national security” or “border integrity.” Bush- era policies have become status quo in airport security, although the Obama administration has pledged to reverse this effect.

Racial profiling in airports can actually undermine security initiatives. According to Reginal Shuford, a senior staff attorney with ACLU’s Racial Justice Program, “It is a dangerous and slippery slope when we allow our government to take away a person’s rights because of his speech or ethnic background. Racial profiling is illegal and ineffective and has no place in a democratic society.” This does not mean security should be absent in American airports; far from it. "American paranoia" is very much so justified, to a certain extent. Recent events prove that it is necessary, more than ever, to maintain high vigilance – especially in ports of entry. But nations must be careful that in protecting human rights and civil liberties, they do not actually provoke and instigate the desire to revolt against such measures. For instance, detaining international Muslims is not a good way to promote peace and gain respect for democracy in an already alienated part of the world. Continental Airways employees are still suffering the backlash of frisking A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a Muslim, Indian V.V.I.P (very very important person), and, not to mention, the former president of India, before he boarded a flight to New York back in April 2009. A standard security procedure should be required for all travelers (whether they be tourist, businessman, movie star or president) but further detention should only be implemented when suspicion is warranted by very specific behavior – one’s ethnic makeup does not qualify as a security breach that justifies a round of humiliating questions, full body pat- down, and retainment of one's private documents, in an isolated back room. In the case that security officials grossly misjudge someone, apologies, for the goodwill of all, must be made. Being treated in an otherwise degrading manner would only encourage hateful sentiments, fuelling desire to actually commit an act of terrorism. Big ideas about human rights can be reinforced and actually achieved by ensuring the detailed intricacies of human rights, those rights enshrined in national and international law, are respected.

US officials disputed the claim that Khan was detained. CBP stated that the agency routinely questioned foreigners and that Khan was questioned for exactly 66 minutes – not, as is being reported, 2 hours. Following intervention by American and Indian officials, Khan was ultimately released and is now focusing on completing his next film, which has since become a kind of art-imitates-life-piece, “My Name is Khan,” in which Shahrukh stars as a man subjected to racial profiling in America.
