I thought I'd have another go at Angelina, this time in black and white. Not my best but by no means my worst image. I'm still not happy with the mouth but I think the rest is OK.
The journey back yesterday went very well. No hold ups and we were home in three and a half hours, no speeding and with an hour's break. Now to sort out the clothes and stuff...sigh!
This little sketch was don this morning. I'm not familiar with her but she's a British actress who's known for being in a soap. As I don't watch them she could be Eve! I'm really happy with he likeness though.
We went to Honiton Hill Rally today. Andrew got his fix on steam engines - like a boy in a candy shop he was. There was very low cloud so with the steam, visibility was very poor. I also discovered that candy floss melts in damp atmosphere! I'm not a fan myself but we thought we'd get some for the children but Ewan and Siobhan were on the bouncy castle. There wasn't much left by the time they had finished, just a sticky horrible mess.
We're heading for home late so will not be back until the wee small hours. Rather that than brave the bank holiday exodus tomorrow. Schools are back this week so the world and his wife will be headed back!

We spent so long travelling today. Arrived at 3.00pm after a 9.30am start. Yawn! Apparently it was worse last night.
We then went fishing on our arrival. The first time I've every really enjoyed it... we actually caught fish! The pond we were using is so full of suicidal fish it was a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, but rewarding as a result. Nothing for the post as they were carp and returned as soon as they were caught. The children loved it.
I managed to finish off the abstracts and a quick sketch of Jamie Oliver after about three glassed of wine. It's not bad and has a certain naive charm given my intoxicated state (I don't tolerate alcohol well so I don't need much to feel uncontrolled) I've tried to scan it but it hasn't worked well. I'll try tweaking to see if I can get an image and upload later if I do.
Everyone was at home today so the opportunity to draw was restricted but not impossible. I completed yesterday's abstracts and started 3 more - this is one I did today. By far and away my favourite, just don't know what it should be called...
We're off to Devon in the morning so will play catch up when I'm back.

It's been a great day artwise. (Even with the ongoing toilet training....ugh!) Did a sketch of the fire this morning and managed a quick sketch of my camera last night. Finished my commission - wayhay! Then did 3 abstracts which are now drying. Finally, this evening I managed to paint the front cover of my sketchbook. I bought some canvas covered sketchbooks with the intention of painting them, but the one in use was looking really scruffy. I found a lovely image of chillis and here they are! I might change the picture tomorrow as it's grainy but using the flash alters the colours.
All I need to do now is decide what should go on the back!
Nearly finished the latest caricature, but I will have to wait before I can post it at the client is not going to see the recipient for a while!
Between toilet training and unexpected visitors and reading I've not done anything else so here is another of the abstracts I finished on Monday. I wasn't going to post it but after some positive feedback from my friend this afternoon I decided I'd go for it!
I've bought a fabulous book recently called "An illustrated life" by Danny Gregory. I've been looking for some guidance on sketchbooks for ages and found this. Wish I'd seen it when I was doing my A levels. Hang on, there wasn't anything like it when I was doing A levels. There's a sore point. It's been slowly dawning on me that my A level art teacher was right. Practice is the "grammar" of the subject of Art. However I wasn't ready to take his advice such was my annoyance with the man. I'll have to be careful or I might be sounding regretful of missed opportunities, can't have that. Off to practice and then bed!

After focusing on the commission for much of this evening, I decided to stop as I need daylight to get the colours right. So I did this little number. One of Siobhan's suggestion a little while ago, Harry Judd form McFly. Honestly, I wouldn't recognise him if I didn't know, but it is a likeness!
Sketching the dog today, unfortunately he keeps moving just as I start on a good pose. AAAAARRRRRGH! All the best poses were just squiggles.
Hit a standstill with the caricature and colours to use. I need to speak to the client then it's all systems go!
Finished this abstract this morning. The other two were more daring attempts for me but I think this one worked best!
I haven't been able to progress with the caricature so I've focused on abstracts and monoprinting. This is my favourite of the monoprints. The abstracts aren't finished yet. Maybe tomorrow!

Nike 2009/10 official club apparel began to arrive today. Now available are the new Juventus home jersey, Inter Milan home jersey and the FC Porto home jersey for 2009/10. Various sizes available in each.
I've been gaily publishing monoprint images assuming people knew what they are. Until yesterday when a friend asked me to explain what they were. So, for the sake of my friends and non arty people, I'll explain, shall I?
Firstly, the monoprint term refers to one print image being taken from the plate although, in reality, 2 or 3 more prints may be taken but these will not be as good as the first. They can be one colour (monochrome) or coloured. There are a few techniques which can be used: -
1 - Using a very smooth surface, such as a glass plate, ink, oil paint or acrylic paint (with a drying inhibitor) is applied using a roller.
a- A sheet of paper is placed gently on top and an image drawn using a pencil or other tool on the paper. The paper is then removed and the printed image will be seen on the reverse of the page.
b- The design is wiped away using a cloth, cotton bud, palette knife etc. Paper is then placed on top and rubbed gently before being removed to reveal the printed image.
2- Ink or oil paint is applied to the plate directly to form an image on the plate. Brushes, palette knives or rollers can be used. The paper is then applied directly to the plate and rubbed lightly to transfer the image to the page.
2nd and 3rd takes are often used as a base for mixed media work and are worked on more to produce a "finished" picture.
Obviously, this is a very brief description and there is a lot more I could say but I'm not going to. Try looking here for more information. OK, I'll will now come out of teacher mode!
I'm not happy with any of my scribbles today so I won't add a current picture but I'll show you another monoprint. A second take that has been worked on.
This is a working of the Fish image seen earlier here. I used iridescent pastels which never show up well when scanned! Pah!
I've had the green light for my latest commission so that will probably be the focus of tomorrow. That and shopping for school shoes - ugh! At least I only need to get one pair this time!
