Gutted!

I was having a pretty good day until about an hour ago. I've been trying to find out which painting received the votes in the competition and have been informed that I wasn't awarded a highly commended after all, despite it being announced! They've decided as there was a tie for first place, not to have a highly commended award! I wouldn't have minded if they'd said that at the exhibition but I've spent the last 2 weeks thinking I'd had some success and now I'm really disappointed! I take consolation from the fact there was only 1 vote between mine and the winners! As it's relevant, here's my third entry. It's called "Global Village."

On a more positive note, I've finally made some headway with the street skater picture. It's looking much better now. I've also identified some more competitions to enter. Got to get back on the proverbial horse! Already feeling more positive for writing this entry.

I'm getting the hang of this

I did it! The live caricaturing went well. I could do with speeding up but I wasn't nearly as nervous this time! As last time, things were slow initialy but then they desended! I even enjoyed myself so maybe I'll be doing more. I must work out some stock body poses though! Practice, practice!

Today I decided to paint lilies. This is my second attempt in pastel on velour paper, a first for me. (Before you ask it is technically painting, although that still puzzles me!) It's an interesting surface to work with and doesn't smudge like regular paper.

Michael Jackson, portrait

This is the second attempt at a pencil portrait of Michael. The first was a good likeness but I'd not placed him correctly. This one is much better.

I've been a bit distracted the last few days, I'm doing a Christmas craft fair later on today. Generally selling any artwork I can, but I'm also going to try some live caricaturing again. I'm not sure how it will go, but I won't know until I've tried, will I? So, I must off and carry on preparing.

hello holiday week!

Disco dancing Docto Who - David Tennant lets his hair down!

This one, sort of ran away with itself! I took Siobhan and a friend swimming and took some pictures to try while they were in the pool. Not swimming yet as my foot is still sore. I've been meaning to do a colour version of David Tennant. I also had some moonwalking poses. Then I remembered "The Doctor dances" an early episode of the revived series. Then the disco floor from Saturday Night fever came to mind... and here's the result!
All done in a swimming lesson. I think I need to paint the movement lines white? And possible add a little more flesh tones to the upper lip.

What's this?

I've been neglecting blogging for the past few days. I have been creating artworks though, so not a total loss of direction. I'm adopting a very lazy posture though. After sparaining my foot last Friday and overdoing walking around I thought I should keep it raised as much as possible, and I haven't worked out a good way to do that at the computer.
So to pictures, I've just done another quick one of Michaael Jackson, not really happy with it so might redraw and post next picture. So here's another exhibition entry, no idea which picture was commended yet, hopefully will find out soon.

What to make of this? Firstly, I'm not happy with the likeness, it was all going so well until I inked it in and the mouth went wrong. Might have to redraw it tomorrow. The background sort of evolved amd I like where it went. I've no idea if it has any relevance to Narina here, but I'm beyond worrying about that! It started as a hammock and took a cosmic leap to a fishing net. In psychiatry there's a term called "knight's move" thinking. To describe where there is a connection in the thought process, but it's not immediately pbvious/logical! I've concluded...I'm good at "knight's move" thinking.
